Leo Kubiak
Leo Stanley Kubiak was born 21-SEP 1920 in Ramsaytown, Pennsylvania. His father was Leo Kubiak (1891-1973) and his mother was Victoria Kalinowiz Kubiak (1882-1982). Leo and his siblings were the first generation born in the United States. His parents were born in Poland. Leo had three brothers: Ben, Walter, and Joseph and one sister: Victoria. Leo attended Tolleston High School in Gary Indiana. All four brothers served during World War II. Leo along with his brothers sang in a quartet.
Leo enlisted 14-JAN 1942 in the Marines in Indianapolis Indiana. The Marines listed his civilian occupation as, “Conveyor man” with Carnegie Steel Company in Gary Indiana. In January 1942, Leo was shown mustered in Central Recruiting Division, 206 U.S. Court House Building, Chicago, Illinois. He is listed as a private.
Leo would serve in the Pacific in the battles of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, and Tinian.
