Lawrence Everett Grant

Lawrence Everett Grant was born in Cuba, Missouri on 03-JAN 1922.  He was the son of Harvey C. Grant (1889-19620 and Hazel A. Grant (nee Sinclair (1901-1983). Lawrence had six sisters: Ruth Margaret, Jennie, Betty, Jean, and Mary.  He had two brothers: Harry and William.  His older brother William served in the Navy in WW II. The family moved to St. Louis Missouri in 1935 and Lawrence attended Roosevelt High School. The family lived at 3433 Arsenal St. Louis. Lawrence Grant was killed in action 7-DEC 1941.

Lawrence enlisted in the U.S. Navy on his 18th birthday on 03-JAN 1940.  His service number was 3372552. He attended basic training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and was assigned to USS ARIZONA (BB-39) on 26-MAR 1940 while she was based in California.

On 30-SEP 1941 Lawrence was listed as a Yeoman 3/c attached to the staff of RADM Isaac C. Kidd, commander battleship division 1 comprising ARIZONA, NEVADA (BB-36) and PENNSYLVANIA (BB-38) all based in Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii since mid-1940.

On the morning of 7-DEC 1941 Japanese naval aircraft attacked the U. S. Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor.  For the rest of his story, click on the pdf below.
