Tony Gay
Tony Gay was born 4-NOV 1933 in Georgia. His parents were Lynwood Cornelius Gay (1888–1964) and Hattie Pearl Lynch (1895–1983). Tony had four brothers: Lynwood, Horace, Arthur, and Billy and one sister Ernestine. Tony graduated from Springvale High School. The Navy lists his occupation from 7/51 to 2/52 as a “Checker” at Monarch Cleaners in Charlotte, NC.
Tony enlisted in the Navy on 1-May 1952 in Macon GA. After boot camp, He attended Class A CT School from 25-Aug 1952 to 10-Apr 1953. In the U.S. Navy, a reClass A” school, also known as “A School,” is the initial technical training sailors receive after boot camp to learn the fundamentals of their specific military occupational specialty (MOS).
Tony was trained for Communications for CT2. In the Navy, Cryptologic Technicians (CTs), are specialists in cryptology, signals intelligence (SIGINT), and information warfare, tasked with collecting, analyzing, and reporting on communication signals to enhance operational integrity and situational awareness.
After his training, Tony was assigned to U.S. Naval Communication Station in Washington DC. From there Tony served at the U.S. Navy Radio Station in Cheltenham Maryland, Navy Communication Station on Guam in the Marianna Islands, Naval Communications Station in the Philippines before returning to Washington DC. Tony served two months overseas on Guam and the Philippines.
