William R. Foelsch
William Robert Foelsch was born 2-Nov 1947 in St. Louis County Mo. His parents were Edward William Foelsch (1924-1993) and Lorraine Louise Steuhmeyer (1924-2015). According to the Federal Census, in 1950 the family lived in St. Louis on 15 Lulu. At the time, William was 2 years old.
William attended Normandy High School in St. Louis County MO. He joined the Air Force shortly after graduating high school in 1965. He attended basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.
From Lackland Air Force Base, Bill went to Goodfellow Air Force Base. In 1966, Goodfellow Air Force Base expanded its mission to include joint-service training, specifically in cryptologic skills, for Army, Navy, and Marine Corps personnel, in addition to its existing Air Force training. Cryptologic” refers to the field of study and practice of cryptography (making codes) and cryptanalysis (breaking codes), encompassing the secure communication of information.
After Bill completed his training, he was deployed to Okinawa.
