Eugene “Gene” Clower was born on June 12, 1918. Gene served in the Navy during World War II. He attended Shurtleff College in Alton, Illinois. Upon entering the Navy Gene attended basic training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. After basic, Gene attended officer training at Notre Dame University. He graduated as an Ensign. Gene served in the Pacific theater during World War II. He was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and served on LST-822 as the navigator.  Gene and LST-822 first action, was Okinawa.
