Lyle Marion Cain was born 30-SEP 1926 in Paris Missouri in Monroe County. Lyle registered for the draft in 1945. Like many young men after hearing about Pearl Harbor, they thought the war would be long over before they were 18.  Lyle enlisted on 5-JAN 1945 at Jefferson Barracks (JB).  Lyle said, “they allowed us to attend our 1945 New Year’s Eve dance, before reporting.”  Lyle reported to Jefferson Barracks later in January. Lyle was stationed at Jefferson Barracks for a week.  While there, he performed KP (Kitchen Police) duty.  That is the first time Lyle saw a potato peeling machine where the potatoes tumbled around removing the peels.
